Microsoft
Vista is certainly a big change in the way we use windows, a brand
new look and lots of new things to get used to! Using programs
that were developed in their first instance for a Windows 2000 or
Windows XP platform can also raise some questions when it
compatibility!
To date, XZAKT Media along with the assistance of several users
whom we are very thankful to, have tested most of our addins
and programs successfully within Vista. Some, such as ToolTips
for FrontPage and Expression, are currently undergoing minor
modifications to cope with the changes of Vista and updates will be
released as any required fixes are discovered, researched and code
amendments implemented.
Here are some fixes that resolve several known issues that are
caused by the default configuration of Vista :
Registry Errors, defaults not saving.
Problem : This may be a problem with many programs developed
for Windows XP/2000 when run in Vista and it does effect some
InstantFX products. (We've come across many including other MS
products including Visual Basic 6!)
Solution : For standalone programs (such as the InstantFX
SE range of Flash tools) the solution is quite simple. When
running the program from the windows start menu, rather than left
clicking to open it, click on it with your right mouse button.
A menu will be displayed of which there should be a "Run as
Administrator" item. Select this to run the program in admin
mode and any registry issues will be resolved!
Getting Imports or Preferences to
Save.
Problem : When imports or program updates are
downloaded nothing happens, or when preferences (such as those in
Elementz) are saved an error occurs or nothing saves. This may
also resolve issues in InstantFX Tooltips for FrontPage and
Expression within Vista.
Solution : This issue seems to occur if the user is
not an Administrator or the program is not run in Administrator
mode. For standalone programs (such as those in the InstantFX
SE range of Flash tools) you can run a program in Vista in
administrator mode by right clicking on it's icon and selecting Run
as Administrator. To fix for all users (whether admin
or not) change the security settings of the programs folder to
allow Users to modify/write contents within the program folder, this
is done as follows :
| 1) Open Explorer and go to the programs installation
folder : |
2) Select Properties->Security Tab followed by the
computers Users account. |
|
 |
 |
| 3) Click Edit to change the security settings and modify
the setting for Users to Full control. |
